The Sairan bus station publishes a daily Almaty–Bishkek route, number 701, from Tole bi Street 294. Its October 5, 2026 listing showed a fare of 3,225 ₸ before the electronic-ticket service fee, with an approximate journey time of four hours. Treat that duration as the station’s estimate: border processing and road conditions can lengthen the trip.
Use this route as an international travel day. A late departure, including the listed 18:00 service, leaves no basis for promising sightseeing or a timed evening activity in Bishkek. A short geographic distance does not make a border crossing suitable for a tight onward flight. For planning the Kazakhstan part of your journey, start with the Almaty guide.
What does the official bus listing actually say?
The Sairan booking page displayed the following snapshot for October 5, 2026:
| Detail | Published listing |
|---|---|
| Route | 701, Almaty/Sairan–Bishkek, daily |
| Boarding address | Tole bi Street 294, Almaty |
| Departures on the checked date | 08:00, 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 18:00 |
| Operator shown | ОсОО Нурдан-Тур / Nurdan-Tur |
| Base fare | 3,225 ₸ |
| Duration and distance | Approximately 4 hours, 236 km |
| Fee qualification | Electronic-ticket service fee is additional |
| Time convention | Local time of the departure bus station |
The 08:00 service was marked departed when checked; the later services showed tickets for sale; we did not buy one or confirm that every displayed seat remained available. Search your own date again before booking. Save the boarding address, departure time, carrier and final amount from the confirmation, rather than relying on a screenshot of this table.
Bus or private transfer: which fits your trip?
Choose the bus for a published departure and a transparent starting fare; consider a private transfer when pickup flexibility or your group’s needs justify a written quote. Neither option removes border formalities.
| Option | Best fit | Questions before paying |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled bus | Independent travellers comfortable reaching Sairan | Final fare, luggage allowance, boarding deadline, arrival stop |
| Private transfer | Families, several bags or a specific pickup | Is the price per vehicle, does one driver cross the border, where do you reconnect? |
| Flight, if available for your date | A traveller whose onward schedule favours air travel | Airport transfers, baggage, total elapsed time and ticket conditions |
For a transfer quote, specify the number of passengers, luggage, pickup address, destination address and any child-seat requirement. Ask whether the agreed amount includes waiting at the border. A cheap “border transfer” can mean a ride only to the crossing, rather than a vehicle taking you to your accommodation.
How to book and reach Sairan
- Open the official route page and select your date.
- Confirm the departure, operator and luggage terms before payment.
- Review the final price including any service fee.
- Save the confirmation offline and confirm whether a printout is needed.
- Plan transport to ул. Толе би, 294. Allow boarding time separately from the journey to the station.
- Ask staff where the correct bus boards; route names and transliteration can differ between signs and your app.
Do not confuse a place called Sairan on a transport map with proof that you are at the bus station. Use the published street address as the destination. The metro guide can help with city travel, but you still need to plan the final approach to the station.
What should you prepare for the border?
Check permission to enter Kyrgyzstan and any later permission to re-enter Kazakhstan for your actual passport and itinerary. Entry to one country does not establish entry to the other. Visa eligibility, document validity and permitted stay are nationality-dependent; ask the relevant official immigration authority or consulate before committing to non-refundable tickets.
Keep your passport, booking confirmation, accommodation address and essential medication in the bag you carry through formalities. Ask the carrier whether you leave the bus, what happens to checked luggage and exactly where passengers meet again. Keep the carrier’s current contact details accessible without mobile data.
The Sairan page tells passengers who cannot find their bus after customs in Kyrgyzstan to call +996 500 26 00 66, as published on October 5, 2026. Save the number offline and confirm the reconnection instructions with staff before departure. Photograph the vehicle identifier before leaving it; do not simply follow passengers who may be using a different service.
How much time should you reserve?
The four-hour figure is a published approximate travel time, not our measured door-to-door duration. Add the transfer to Sairan, boarding, border queues and transport from the actual arrival stop in Bishkek.
Prefer an onward booking that can absorb delay. For an expensive international flight or another connection you cannot miss, consider arriving the previous day. The buffer depends on the consequence of missing your connection, not just on the average bus duration.
Arrival and return-trip checklist
- Confirm the arrival stop before boarding; “Bishkek” alone is not a complete address.
- Download the final walking or taxi route before leaving Almaty.
- Check roaming or an appropriate data plan for Kyrgyzstan; a Kazakhstan-only plan may not cover it.
- Keep a suitable payment option for arrival expenses.
- Book the return journey independently and recheck its station and schedule.
- Review whether your travel-insurance territory covers both countries and cross-border travel.
For another onward direction, compare Almaty to Tashkent. The routes have different operators and border arrangements; do not transfer the Bishkek bus instructions to an Uzbekistan journey.
